granny square baby blanket

Now I know I already shared a granny square!!! But this is just one of the many things you can do with the granny square! And I was asked by my mom to make a blanket for some she works with who is having a girl! so I gave a lot of thought on to what type of blanket to make and what would be the quickest to crochet up. and the granny square seems like it would be the quickest. I used all red heart super saver in: coffee cafe (brown), baby pink, white, and pink tones

what you'll need:
crochet hook (any one will do) I used for this blanket- k/10 1/2, 6.50mm
as many colors you like  (I will be using 4)
tapestry needle or yarn needle
scissors

abbreviations:
chain: ch
double crochet: dc
slip: sl
space: sp
stitch: st(s)
single crochet: sc
find basic crochet/knitting abbreviations here!!

first you want to make you slip knot. once you do that you cant start your blanket!

ch5 and sl st to make ring
round 1: ch 3(count as 1st dc). and work 2dc's into ring, ch1, work 3dc's into ring ch1, work 3dc's into ring ch1, work 3dc's into ring, and sl into the top of ch3 sp.  sl st over to the first shell, sl st into the ch1 sp

round 2: ch3(count as 1st dc) work 2dc into ch3 sp. ch1 3dc into same sp. ch1,now into the 2nd shell sp work 3dc's ch1, ch 3dc's and do that into all the shell spaces. sl st over to the first ch1 sp.

round 3: ch3(count as 1st dc), work 2dc into first ch3 sp. ch1 3more dc's into same sp. Now work 3dc in to the space between the corner shell's. 3dc into corner shell ,ch1 3dc into same sp. 3dc into next space between the corner shell's . 3dc into the next corner shell ch1, 3dc more into same space. 3dc into the next space between the corner shell's . 3dc into the next shell ch1, 3dc into same space.

you will need to repeat round 3 for as many rounds as you like you blanket to be. if it is for a baby the smallest you want to make it is 34"

for girl add a flower border
(5dc: 1 flower shell for border) Sl st in top of 3dc from below row, into next ch1 sp, ch3(which counts as 1dc), 4dc into same sp. 1sc in top of middle of the next 3dc from below row, * 5dc in next ch1 sp, 1sc in top of middle of the next 3dc from below row. rep. until you get to end then sl st into the first ch3 sp. break yarn
